Our Nation-wide Crush on Street Food

What is the allure, the pull that gets us to indulge in temaki out of a truck, fried bread from a trailer and sushi from a stall? The street food scene has well and truly come into it’s own in NZ and like teenagers with a crush, we’ve fallen head over heels for these delicious trucks. After some hard research, eating and drinking to our heart's content, we’ve compiled a list of some of the reasons we’re so damn excited by street food.

The Food

Street food across the world is renowned for being fresh, for giving the people what they want and more importantly for the worlds of variety they offer. Want to blend up your smoothie on a bike? Done. Guilt-free burgers? Easy. Organic, lavender ice blocks at your wedding? No worries. The food is fast and good, and served with a slice of Kiwi ingenuity.

The Story

There’s a lot of blood, sweat and tears that go into these street food wonders and with that comes a story. Food trucks, trailers, vans and stalls are a foodie dream realised. You can expect a good story behind your burger, and more often than not a number of smiley faces and inspired food lovers behind your favourite dish. Stop for a bite and stay for the chat.

The Atmosphere

Food trucks go in hand in hand with your favourite social situations. If you’re munching on your favourite street food you’re most probably surrounded by friends and/or family. They’re there for you when you’ve lost all energy at musical festivals, a pick me up during weddings and the perfect vibe for that first date.

There are infinite reasons to love the food truck and we might never be able to put them in all in words. What we can vouch for is that, we love them because they bring good food and good people together and we wouldn't have it any other way.
