International Burger Day: a history

The humble burger had a rather ecelectic start - burger patties originated in Hamburg, but it is uncertain as to whether the Hamburger as we know it today originated in Germany or the United States.

The origins of International Burger Day are just as uncertain, no one quite knows how May 28th got the title (in fact, some countries maintain that it is celebrated on the 27th of August.) and it seems that whilst International Burger Day is quite a recent development, no one is tagged with originating the celebration.

As the event grows nationally and internationally, so does awareness and whilst New Zealand has been a little behind in honoring the burger on its celebration day, our burger culture is definitely burgeoning.
